Sad Day

Today marked our last long weekend of rehearsals with the 2008 cast of Capella. Wow. Looking back, it seems like yesterday that we were holding auditions.

This group has worked so hard, and come so far, this season. It is kind of sad to know that we only have two weeks left, with SCGC Championships this next weekend, and then World Championships, the week after that.

It was hard to watch, knowing that this is the last time that this group of performers will be together, as an ensemble.

I hope that they know how lucky they are to have each other, for this short time, in their lives. Good luck to them all, as they complete their season. Well done Capella. We made it.

Dream

"If there were ever a time to dare, to make a difference, to embark on something worth doing, it is now. Not for any grand cause, necessarily, but for something that tugs at your heart, something that's your aspiration, something that's your dream. You owe it to yourself to make your days here count. Have fun. Dig deep. Stretch. Dream big."- Mac

I want my MTV!!

MTV Networks seeks high school marching band for new show
NEW YORK, March 6, 2008 — Is your high school marching band rockin' enough for MTV? MTV News & Docs is casting a new show which will chronicle the inner workings and outside lives of a high school marching band. The chosen band will share their experiences of rehearsals, half-time performances, competitions and fundraisers while balancing the normal pressures of high school. "We're looking for outgoing, interesting, diverse band members to share their lives with us," says casting director Claresa Mandola. "And a proud, dedicated school that's willing to open up their doors to our producers." Geographic location is not an issue, and Mandola encourages inquiries from any high school band. "Most important is the kids' personalities and stories," Mandola says. "Of the entire band, we would follow five to seven main characters most closely ... so meeting some really strong candidates in the mix on the video is key." The approximate timeframe for the show is as follows: • March/April 2008: Receive video applications • May 2008: Potential casting shoots with top choices • Mid-Summer through Fall Semester: Production begins Interested parties should contact Mandola to discuss making a video application. Call (212) 654-4871 or send email to

Good Job!

What Is Sportsmanship?

Sportsmanship is defined as:
playing fair
following the rules of the game
respecting the judgment of referees and officials
treating opponents with respect

Some people define good sportsmanship as the "golden rule" of sports — in other words, treating the people you play with and against as you'd like to be treated yourself. You demonstrate good sportsmanship when you show respect for yourself, your teammates, and your opponents, for the coaches on both sides, and for the referees, judges, and other officials.

But sportsmanship isn't just reserved for the people on the field. Cheerleaders, fans, and parents also need to be aware of how they behave during competition. Sportsmanship is a style and an attitude, and it can have a positive influence on everyone around you. Everyone feels great when they win, but it can be just as hard to be a good sport when you've won a game as when you've lost one. Good sportsmanship takes maturity and courage — when you work really hard at a sport, it's not easy to admit you made a bad play or that someone has more skills than you. In competition — as in life — you may not always win but you can learn something from losing, too.

It's pretty tough to lose, so it definitely doesn't help matters if someone continues taunting you or your team after the competition is over. Sometimes it's hard to swallow your pride and walk on. But there's always the next match. When you do lose — and it will happen — don't take it out on your opponent, blame the officials, or blame your team. Take it in stride. When you lose, lose with class. Being proud of how you performed, or at least being aware of things you need to improve for next time, is key. When it comes to losing, good sportsmanship means congratulating the winners promptly and willingly. Also, it means accepting the game's outcome without complaint and without excuses, even if you sometimes might suspect the referees made some questionable calls.

When you win, the trick is to be a gracious and generous winner. Good sportsmanship means acknowledging victories without humiliating opponents, being quietly proud of success, and letting victories speak for themselves. Even if you win by a landslide, good sportsmanship means still finding ways to compliment your opponents.

Happy St Patty's Day

Atlanta Regional

What a weekend!

Despite the horrible weather, and long journey, Capella made it to Atlanta and had a great time!

Congratulations to the members for a job well done! I could not be any more proud of you all. I am looking forward to SCGC Championships and Worlds.

Some of the highlights of the weekend, for me, were:

Harrison HS - What an adorable show. The girls were dressed as tubes of paint and the floor was an artist's pallet. They had a huge paint can on the corner of the floor and a soloist, dressed as the artist. Well done!

Phantom Regiment - It was great to see Adam Sage and our friends from Regiment. Their show has changed quite a bit since we saw them in Nashville. Gorgeous new flags and butterfly wings. Beautiful. Loved it!!

The best part of the weekend was spending it with my gang. You guys are the best. I had so many people stop me and tell me how gorgeous your show is, and what a great job you did. You should be extremely proud of all that you have accomplished. You are a class act.

Get some rest...we are in the home stretch.

From the Couch - This Week on BOOBTube

1. Oh, Big Brother! You have sucked me back in again. Three shows per week plus a nightly, three hour Showtime LIVE BB After Dark show. My tivo is smoking.

2. Little David Archuletta is still my favorite Idol. I don't care if he DID forget the words.

3. Watched a PPV movie this week - August Rush. I have not cried that much in a LONG time. Brilliant!

4. Celebrity Fit Club and Screech are back. Let the screaming begin!!

5. Top Chef has returned for another season in CHICAGO! Yay!

6. I have an addiction to the OC. I bought the first season for Sara, for Christmas, and after borrowing it from her, have been watching the seasons, back to back, ever since. I just finished season 3. Even Larry has been glued to the set. Whodathunkit?

Atlanta or Bust!

We are heading to Atlanta tomorrow for the WGI Regional. Safe travels to all and good luck with your performances this weekend. We will see you there!

One Month

One month from now, we will be getting ready for our World Championships prelims performance!

Friday, March 7, 2008

What does that mean?

Christian Siriano: "Fierce is about being fabulous and flawless. If you're fabulous, you're fierce. If you're flawless, you're fierce. And if you're ferocious, you're really fierce — that's like the highest one."

Old Man Winter - Blast You!!

We do not get to go to the Ville of Clark, after all. Very disappointing. We were looking foward to our weekend of pagentry at its finest.
Now that the snow has arrived, it better make a good showing!

Middle Name Pride Day

What is in a name? Usually, a horrid middle name, given by your parents to honor one of your relatives. I, however, lucked out with the most common middle name ever, Ann.

My namesake, Emily Ann Anderson, and I have more than just our first and second names in common. My grandfather, Winfield Wagner, was adopted by the Wagners. His real name was Anderson. We could be distantly related! After all, my grandfather's nickname was "Tennessee".

So, in honor of Middle Name Pride Day, wear the name your momma gave ya, with pride, all you Hortenses, Sybils, and Waloolahs.

From the Couch - This week on BOOBTube

1. American Idol - David Archuletta singing Phil Collins? Lovely. The panel gave him some criticisms in order to make the other contestants feel like they have a chance.
2. Big Brother – Allison is evicted, but Ryan gets to stay. Doh!
3. Survivor – Drop your buffs.
4. Project Runway – Fierce.

5. RW/RR - Shame on you, Coral.
6. Rock of Love - Oh, say can you sing?
7. ANTM - Lots of skinny girls in New York...that's a shocker.

Happy Name Tag Day!

Now THAT is Fierce!
