Lots o Stuff

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Drew is in Rockford this weekend for Regiment brass auditions.  Sara & Heath are in Pearl, Ms. helping our Amye with her guard's drill and choreography camp.  Good luck to the ladies at Pearl!

I am working on getting ready for Christmakuh by dusting off my boughs of holly.  I love decorating for the holidays, but it usually takes me the entire month of December to get everything out and up.  Then, the day after Christmas, I am ready to shove it all back in the closet.

Safe travels and good luck to all who are going to their respective corps auditions.  Sara will be in Rockford next weekend with Rick and his staff, for Regiment guard auditions.  Good luck to Hannah, Kelly, Malissa, Midori, and Bre!!!

Our next rehearsal weekend begins Friday, December 12th, with Miley Cyrus hype, and we have Saturday and Sunday with Rick, jammed with choreography.   I am looking foward to receiving our uniform prototypes so that we may begin fittings!   They should be here, any day now.

Happy Black Friday to all!  Put on your elbow pads, and get out there among 'em!!

Capella announces its 2009 production....

It is told that a large school of koi fish swam up a river.  But upon reaching the Dragon’s gate, only one koi was able to swim over to the other side. It is also said that the successful koi who swims through the Dragon’s gate, can be transformed into a dragon, in the instant of it’s leap out of the water, thus avoiding evil spirits.

Set to excerpts of soundtracks by Alexandre Desplat and James Newton Howard, Capella will come out of the shadows, and leap into the deep end of the pond, entering the Independent Open class, for the first time, with enthusiasm and determination.

Capella’s returning staff consists of Drew Solomonson, Visual Design, Sara Abramson and Elizabeth Heath, Choreographers, and Emily Abramson, Administrative Director.  We are pleased to announce that Rick Subel will be joining our staff for the 2009 season, bringing his expertise in weapon choreography, to further enhance our talented staff.   Capella will be performing at the Nashville and Indianapolis Power Regionals, as well as World Championships in Dayton, OH.

Rehearsal Weekend

Our first full rehearsal weekend was great!  If my condition is any indication of how the members feel, they are exhausted.

I love this cast and how they interact with each other and the staff.  It is going to be a memorable season.

Thank you to Lauren and Kathleen for bringing us brownies, which were scrumptious!!

Good luck to all who are auditioning for corps in the next couple of weeks.  We will be thinking of you!!  It will be a long three weeks until we are all together again.  Have a great holiday!

Twilight - The Premiere

My night out with the girls, was alot of fun, however I am suffering today from sleep deprivation.  I guess I am too old to burn the midnight oil, so to speak.

The theatre was everything I expected it to be, in light of the recent hub-bub surrounding the movie.  Cars painted, as if rooting for their favorite sports team, girls in bad prom dresses, sitting in line for two hours (thanks for my chair), and even a gal dressed up as Alice's red car...yeah, really.

It was a small stampede when the doors were opened and a mad scramble to find the best seat in the house.  Looking around the theatre, there was a soft glow from the cell phones and cameras which illuminated the room.  I wondered to myself, "Isn't it a school night"?  There were teens and tweens, everywhere.  Screaming, doing the wave, taking pics of each other as if they were in Hollywood, at a real premiere.  It was crazy.

You know what they say?  Opinions are like, well, you know.  My opinion is one of disappointment.   I adored the books and read each one as quickly as I could, so that I could move onto the next.  The movie, however, did not capture the fantasy that my mind created.  There were key elements missing, and if I were watching the movie without having read the book, I would not understand.  The teens and tweens at the theatre laughed nervously at every spoken word, as if they were in on the big secret, that the movie failed to reveal.  It became monotonous and distracting.   What was so funny, I kept thinking to myself.  I think it was more of an, OMG, its Edward, reaction from the young female audience, more than the content of what was happening on the screen.  I was thinking OMG for a completely different reason.

The acting, on the whole, was horrific and made some scenes almost comical, when indeed they were intended to be serious.  The teenaged laugh track in the theatre did not help, in this area.  No Oscar contention for this cast.  I hated the casting of Carlisle and Esme.  I loved the casting of James and Alice...wish they had more lines.  Jacob's character had the worst "weave" I have ever seen. However bad the hair, he is an extremely handsome guy, making Edward "pale" in comparison.

Overall, I am sure that this film will make some bucks, due to the younger fan base.  I hope the sequel(s) is an improvement over this initial offering.    Harry Potter need not worry.

I really WANTED to love this movie.  Oh well.

Inspirational

Have you seen this video on the WGI site?  I just watched it and blubbered like a baby.  I know... The next time you are a little less than enthusiastic about going to practice, think of this beautiful girl.  I am truly inspired.

Twilight!

Going with the girls tonight to see THE movie of the year!  Midnight showing...hope this ole gal can hang.  I guess a power nap is in order for this afternoon.  Cannot wait to see how this book translates to the screen.  Everyone has their own vision of what it should look like.  Me included.  I am not sure about the casting YET, but am open to be pleasantly surprised.

Drill Camp

Drill camp was very productive and we are well on our way to putting our new show, on the floor.  We have alot of work to do between now and January, for Field Day.

Capella was decked out in their finest 80's gear, which made the day so much more fun.

Looking foward to next weekend, when we will all be together again.  We missed Zarah and Kate, who were in Indy for Grand Nationals. Congrats to Andy and Avon High School for your first place victory!!

Hype Day!!

Gotta love the 80's. I finished college, got married, moved to Memphis, started working for the man, and having babies, so I was more about big shoulder pads, big stomach, and big hair.

My favorite memories. Florida State. Sixteen Candles. Leader Federal. The Brat Pack. Oingo Boingo. Duran Duran. Docksiders. IZOD. Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans. Double Wrap Belts. My wedding. My babies. Dusty.
It hurts that the 80's are now considered retro/oldies. I guess I really am an antique.
